Use the normal setup you use for catching other carp, but your bait should be something vegie.

Some proven bait are, cherry tomatoes, wads of grass, berry, or dough mixed with strawberry or something similar. You can either float or let it drop.

Tip: If it’s on a gholf course for example, take note of where cut grass gets in the water. That would be a good place to use wads of grass.

With the main political party splitting and more crime and more corruption popping up like bubbles from a seals fart its hard to find a good enough reason to still find some things lovable. In this chaos we have a system, the rest of the world might not understand it but we make sense of it nevertheless. I look at South Africa as a Kung Fu  movie, we build our nation on all the negative energy that is spiraling towards some sort of goal. We channel these thoughts that make us so mad and depressive we bite down on it and construct a motherfucker of a complex situation in which we live. If you don’t understand it, get use to it I’ve tried to understand it for 20 years and I still cant put it in a nutshell.

The conclusion that one is to make of this is the fact that our unique society is the toughest one I know. Why should we as South African take bullshit from other countries? Take a random sample, most of us speak two languages or more, we’re perhaps not smart on paper but we sure as hell know to bargain each other to get that what we want. We have the ability to leave Americans astonished with their lack of the world, and we surely have tougher skin than Helga, your average German ski instructer.

So next time, if you feel depressed or angry just bite down and form a satisfactory smile on your lips. Remember, its not over till the fat sisi signs!

We knew they had bass of up to 2.2Kg, because we caught a few earlier this year. We didn’t expect great results, but decided to stick around and try out all the new lures we acquired.

It was slow going at first, with myself losing 4 bass through the course of the day. Sw van der Merwe on the other hand stuck to his gut feeling and brought in two nice bass of 1.16Kg and 1.13Kg respectively. At the end he caught 4, but we’re not going to mention the 4th one.

We slowly moved down the lake and noticed around 50 huge carp mating, or so it seemed. We had a few casts and lo-and-behold the bass were hungry!

Sw caught a whopper 1.50Kg, and as a I moved to help him, my rod was almost ripped out of my hand, landing a nice 1.32Kg. A few minutes later I also landed a 1.44Kg.

All in all it was an amazing day, and what a way to start off the season. Can’t wait for full-on spawning season. Might just hit the 3Kg when we visit the dam again.

Some of these innovations include the invention of monofilament nylon fishing lines, the fiberglass (later graphite composite) fishing rod, the electric trolling motor, the fish finder/depth locator, and new artificial lures and baits made of various plastics. Recently, advanced electronics that mimic the sounds of schooling bait fish have been introduced, and a controversy has arisen over the proper use of these devices in bass tournament fishing.

Since the early 1990s, fly fishing for bass, particularly smallmouth bass, has again become popular, using fly patterns, rods, and fly lines suited for bass.

Fishermen, conservation groups, and governmental wildlife departments have introduced black bass of various species across the world for the sport of fishing. Outside North America, Japan and South Africa have active programs.

Bass fishing as a sport was helped along by the chase for the standing world record which has held for over 75 years. Though surrounded by controversy it is widely accepted that in 1932 a 22 pound 4 ounce bass was caught by George Perry in Montgomery Lake, Georgia. It is one of the longest standing records in the sport of fishing.

This came to as a staggering surprise, not underestimating the South-African government’s persuasion of the FIFA president, but actually thinking there might be a slight chance of the board considering South-Africa as a valid country.

Although the nation promised to “clean up its act” for 2010 there is still a tremendous amount of work to be done.  The fact is that South-Africa does not lack manpower, knowledge or taxpayers money to complete the physical aspects of the requirements. No, the problem lies much deeper, mainly on a social level.

The previous soccer world cup hosted by Germany in 2006 displayed a perfect picture of how a social institution must look like before even considering hosting such a major event. The number one concern of the visitors to Germany in that time was safety. South-Africa thus promises this too, but to a certain extent that there will be no guarantee. When looking at this aspect out of a statistical point of view, one can’t help to look at the negative aspects. Among Germany’s 82 million citizens there have been 794 murders in 2005. In 2007 South-Africa’s murder rate reached a staggering 18,487! And that is out of a population of 48 million, almost half of Germany’s population! Astonishing, that means that every 30 seconds someone is murdered in the country hosting the world’s largest sporting event!

To compete with the extreme social situation or lack thereof is the country’s political mayhem. The ANC leader (the governing political party at the moment) Jacob Zuma, is currently on trial, this after he has been accused of corruption, fraud and rape.Furthermore the soaring food prices, the poverty issue, the electricity problem the HIV/AIDS epidemic and not to mention the Zimbabwean question all contributes to the chaotic state of the rainbow nation. Is this hell?

Therefore I urge people planning to visit South-Africa to come and see the world cup to do so with caution. Although the country desperately needs the foreign currency it is inevitable that we repair the damage we have created before attempting to host such a sporting event.
